LOS ANGELES, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Four new movies, led by the Coen brothers' "Burn After Reading," were the favorites in U.S. theaters this weekend, Box Office Mojo said Sunday.
"Burn," a crime comedy starring George Clooney, Frances McDormand and Brad Pitt, had estimated gross ticket sales of $19.4 million. Next was "Tyler Perry's The Family That Preys," a drama featuring Alfre Woodard, Sanaa Lathan and Rockmond Dunbar, at $18.02 million.
Coming in at No. 3 was "Righteous Kill," a crime mystery with Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, at $16.5 million, followed by "The Women," a drama-comedy starring Meg Ryan, Annette Bening and Eva Mendes, at No. 4 with $10.9 million in estimated ticket sales.
Filling out the Top 10 were "The House Bunny," $4.3 million; "Tropic Thunder," $4.18 million; "The Dark Knight," $4.02 million; "Bangkok Dangerous," $2.4 million; "Traitor," $2.13 million; and "Death Race," $2.02 million.
Gone from the top tier were "Babylon A.D.," "Mamma Mia!," "Disaster Movie" and "Pineapple Express."
