HOLLYWOOD, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Warner Bros. says it will re-release the Batman movie "The Dark Knight" in January at the height of the Academy Awards voting season.

"It's just a matter of bringing it back as a reminder for people," a studio insider told The Hollywood Reporter in a story published Saturday.

The hugely popular movie has sparked talk of possible Oscar nods for its director, producers and cast -- especially the late Heath Ledger, who delivers an eerie and edgy performance as the Joker.

"Dark Knight" has earned $512 million domestically and $440 million internationally and a pre-Oscars return to theaters would assure its topping $1 billion worldwide, said the Reporter.
