LOS ANGELES, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- John Singleton, the only African-American filmmaker ever nominated for a Best Director Oscar, is to be a guest programmer for Turner Classic Movies, TCM said.

Singleton earned Academy Award nominations for both Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for the 1991 film "Boyz N the Hood." He was just 23 at the time.

His other films include "Poetic Justice," "Higher Learning," "Rosewood," the remake of "Shaft," "Baby Boy," "2 Fast 2 Furious" and "Four Brothers."

TCM said it invites a celebrity each month to "exchange star status for a role as a devoted fan of classic film by picking a few favorite movies and sharing with viewers what he or she has come to love about each one."

Singleton is to sit down with TCM host Robert Osborne to present five outstanding films -- "Lassie Come Home," "Meet John Doe," "High Noon," "Gunga Din" and "Psycho" -- Sept. 30, beginning at 8 p.m. E.T.
