Tamim's husband lashes out at police

LONDON, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- The husband of singer Suzanne Tamim, slain while in Dubai, accuses London police of not protecting her while living in the city despite threats on her life.

Riyadh Alazzawi told The Sunday Times of London that even after informing London police about his wife's concerns of being the target of a professional assassin, he didn't get "any help" in protecting the Lebanese singer during their time in Britain.

"I was there to protect her, but was doing it all by myself," the world kickboxing champion said of the 18 months the couple lived in London. "I didn't get any help."

Alazzawi said when he first met Tamim two years ago, she had already been receiving death threats she suspected came from a former lover. The unidentified suspect allegedly threatened to pay an assassin to kill her if the "Beirut" singer didn't return to him.

The Times said during a visit to Dubai six weeks ago, former police officer Muhsen el-Sukkari allegedly stabbed the singer and slit her throat. The newspaper said prosecutors' main suspect in the case is Egyptian business tycoon Hisham Talaat Mustafa, who allegedly hired the assassin.
