Epcot center brings hurricane indoors

ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 7 (UPI) -- The Epcot center at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., offers visitors a realistic re-enactment of a hurricane in a new exhibit, an expert says.

Former National Hurricane Center director Max Mayfield said "StormStruck: A Tale of Two Homes," allows Epcot tourists the chance to witness firsthand the power of a hurricane without placing their lives in danger, The Miami Herald reported Sunday.

Mayfield said the exhibit, which opened last month, shows exactly how a hurricane can damage a home.

''You see the roof fail. You see the windows and doors give in. You even see water getting in through the soffits," he told the Herald.

The hurricane expert helped create the tourist exhibit in order to better educate the public on how best to protest their homes while also offering them entertainment.

"If you invited people to come to a seminar on how to mitigate their homes, they wouldn't come," he said. "This is going to help educate people on what they can do.''
