LONDON, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Former British pop star and convicted pedophile Gary Glitter reportedly sought police protection after a group of teenagers allegedly harassed him at his home.

Glitter, 64, recently returned to England following his release from a Vietnamese prison where he served a three-year sentence for committing obscene acts with two girls, ages 10 and 11.

The Daily Mail said he was trying to keep a low profile while staying at a friend's cottage in Hill Head, however, his whereabouts were discovered when he was shopping nearby.

An angry group of youths gathered at his place, chanting, "Pedo, pedo," and allegedly attempted to break into his garage.

In a separate incident, a local teacher and father of two young children staged a protest outside of Glitter's house in an effort to get him to leave the neighborhood.

The singer, who also spent time behind bars in 1999 for possessing child pornography, hid out Tuesday night in a police station because he feared for his safety, The Daily Mail said.
