LONDON, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Representatives for singer Annie Lennox say she has undergone successful spinal surgery in London for a back injury sustained this month.

Lennox, 53, the Scottish rock and pop singer best known as a member of the 1980s band Eurythmics, suffered a pinched nerve after falling in Mexico while attending the International AIDS Conference. She has announced her next album will be delayed, as a result, People Magazine reported Monday.

"The surgery (to release an impinged nerve) went as planned, and Annie is now recuperating at home," spokesman Roger Widynowski told reporters. "Annie would like to send her thanks and appreciation to all who have sent their well wishes in the past few days."

Last week, Lennox wrote on her official Web site, "I came back to the U.K. and got wheeled off the plane … a first I must say! Felt a bit like Elizabeth Taylor! Some of my plans and schemes have had to be put on hold, because there's not much I can do if I can't walk properly."

The magazine said the release of Lennox’s upcoming retrospective album, originally set for Sept. 16, will now be issued in the spring.
