Friend: Winfrey to stay low-key at DNC

DENVER, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- TV talk show host Oprah Winfrey will keep a low profile at the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Denver, a friend says.

Gayle King said the popular star of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" does not want to have her presence overshadow the acceptance speech of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama during the convention, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday.

Winfrey has been a strong supporter of the Illinois Democrat in his campaign for the White House. She has taken part in a number of Obama rallies and held a fundraiser for the senator at her California home.

Obama is expected to make his acceptance speech for his party's general election nomination Aug. 28 at Invesco Field at Mile High, the Times said.

King told the newspaper Winfrey will purposefully not be on stage, opting instead to remain inconspicuous among the 70,000 people expected to attend Obama's speech.
