HARTFORD, Conn., Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Famed jazz pianist Dave Brubeck took time during the Litchfield Jazz Festival in Connecticut to play alongside a 12-year-old saxophonist, the boy says.

Dakota Austin first met Brubeck at a jazz camp this month and told the 87-year-old musician how much his musical works like the Dave Brubeck Quartet hit "Take Five" meant to him, The Hartford (Conn.) Courant said Sunday.

"You were the person who inspired me," Austin told Brubeck. "Then I blurted out: 'I want to play 'Take Five' with you.'"

Brubeck said if it was alright with his saxophonist, the young maestro could perform the hit song on stage with him during last Saturday's festival.

Austin, who credits his father with his unusual interest in the 1950s musician, said performing with Brubeck was an amazing yet slightly frightening experience.

"It seemed to take forever," he old the Courant, "but I didn't want it to end."
