LOS ANGELES, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- U.S. reality television star Lauren Conrad is designing the gown to be worn by the 60th annual Primetime Emmy Awards trophy girls, the show's producer said.

The awards telecast is to air live from the NOKIA Theatre in Los Angeles Sept. 21 on the ABC Television Network.

"For the first time in Emmy history, a celebrity designer will be creating a gown to be worn by the women who are handing out the Emmys statuettes," Ken Ehrlich, executive producer of the telecast, said in a statement Wednesday. "We are very excited to have someone as talented as Lauren Conrad working with us to help make this a very memorable and exciting show."

Conrad, who is currently starring in the third season of MTV's popular reality series, "The Hills," debuted her line at this year's L.A. Fashion Week.

"I am so excited that the Academy has asked me to design a dress for this year's Emmy Awards," Conrad added. "I will be doing a red carpet look that still reflects the simple classic design of the Lauren Conrad Collection, but with a black-tie twist."

The dress is being specially designed for the awards show and is not part of the Lauren Conrad Collection.
