MEMPHIS, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Morgan Freeman's publicist says the actor has been walking around after undergoing surgery to repair injuries sustained in a weekend car crash in Mississippi.
Freeman and a passenger were pulled from their vehicle by rescue workers who used the jaws of life after the car accident Sunday night.
Freeman reportedly sustained a broken arm and elbow, as well as an injured shoulder. His passenger was treated for injuries and was released from a hospital.
"Morgan is doing well after surgery last night to reconnect nerves and to repair damage to his left arm and hand at the Elvis Presley Memorial Trauma Center at The MED, at the Regional Medical Center at Memphis," Freeman's representative, Donna Lee, said in a statement issued Tuesday. "The surgery lasted approximately four and a half hours, including recovery, and he is in good spirits and was visiting with family members this morning. He was walking this a.m., and is looking forward to his release as soon as possible. ... Thanks from Morgan to the many who sent good wishes and prayers."
The 71-year-old Oscar winner has starred in dozens of films including, "The Dark Knight," "The Bucket List," "Evan Almighty," "Million Dollar Baby," "The Shawshank Redemption" and "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves."
