LOS ANGELES, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Actress Lisa Bonet, known best for her role on "The Cosby Show," has joined a U.S. adaptation of the British TV series "Life on Mars," sources say.

Sources told EW.com exclusively that the 40-year-old actress, who played Denise Huxtable on the popular 1980s TV series, joined the cast of the upcoming ABC adaptation, the Web site reported Friday.

The actress will play the girlfriend of actor Jason O'Mara's character, the sources say.

The police drama, which is set in two time periods, recently added another actress to play another one of the main character's love interests. EW.com said actress Gretchen Mol, who has appeared in movies such as "3:10 to Yuma" and "The Ten," will play the character's girlfriend in 1973.
