NEW YORK, July 29 (UPI) -- Sean Maguire has been cast as the lead in "Krod Mandoon and The Flaming Sword of Fire," Comedy Central's first fantasy-comedy series, the U.S. network said.

Maguire, who began acting at the age of 5 in the television movie "A Voyage Round My Father" opposite Laurence Olivier, has also starred in the big-screen comedy "Meet the Spartans" and in the TV shows "The Class," "Grange Hill" and "EastEnders."

Comedy Central said "Krod Mandoon" is to film on location in Hungary. It is scheduled to premiere in early 2009.

The network described the series as "an outrageous, live-action, character-driven comedy that takes place in the 'long ago past.' It will feature Maguire as the reluctant hero Krod Mandoon, a sensitive, clueless freedom fighter, as the last great hope in a medieval struggle."
