BRITNEY SPEARS DEBUTES HER NEW ALBUM "IN THE ZONE"

LOS ANGELES, July 28 (UPI) -- U.S. pop singer Britney Spears's "Piece of Me" has been nominated for a 2008 MTV Video Music Award in the Best Female Video category.

Spears's career has been overshadowed in the last year or so by her erratic behavior and legal battle with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, over custody of their two sons.

Spears appears to have been getting her act together since her father was named conservator of her affairs, following her treatment for psychiatric issues earlier this year.

She also reached a settlement with Federline last week regarding custody of their children.

Her video will compete with Mariah Carey's "Touch My Body," Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl," Rihanna's "Take A Bow" and Jordin Sparks's "No Air," MTV.com said.

Nominated in the Best Male Video category are Chris Brown's "With You," Flo Rida's "Low," Lil Wayne's "Lollipop," T.I.'s "No Matter What" and Usher's "Love In This Club."

The awards will be handed out Sept. 7.
