Universal Studios said the movie, which will be based on the popular Robin Hood literary character, was to have started production in mid-August, but now likely will be delayed until 2009, The Hollywood Reporter said Saturday.
In a statement, the studio said concerns regarding the film's script and location settings prompted the delay, along with the mounting effects of the Screen Actors Guild contract conflict.
"The current version of the screenplay," the studio said, "is not yet where the studio and the filmmakers want it to be in terms of realizing the full value of the story.
"Universal could have moved forward with one of these challenges, but the confluence of the three caused the studio to reconsider and take the time for all conditions to be optimal."
The Reporter said the studio confirmed Scott and actor Russell Crowe, who is to have a lead role, are still committed to the Hollywood project.
