NEW YORK, July 24 (UPI) -- Donatella Versace has been hired as the interior designer for a 1909 New York building being transformed into a luxury condo complex, a developer said.

The New York Post said the iconic Italian fashion designer has been chosen to create new looks for the inside of the Clock Tower, which opened nearly a century ago as MetLife's headquarters.

Developers are renovating the property to feature 55 high-end condos. The building is scheduled to open at the end of 2010, The Post said.

"We believe the brand name of Versace plays a significant role in bringing the highest lifestyle for this clientele," Rotem Rosen, chief executive officer of developers Africa Israel, told the newspaper.
