LOS ANGELES, July 24 (UPI) -- Hollywood filmmaker Peter Berg reportedly is producing and plans to direct "Hercules: The Thracian Wars," a big-screen adaptation of a new comic-book series.

Variety.com said the movie is inspired by Steve Moore's five-issue series, which premiered in May.

"What resonated for (Berg and the producers) was that this was character driven, about a character who's more man than god, with conflicts and redemption," producer Barry Levine told the entertainment industry trade paper.

Berg is also set to direct and produce a new adaptation of Frank Herbert's science-fiction classic, "Dune."

Berg's previous films include "Hancock," "The Kingdom," "Friday Night Lights" and "Very Bad Things."
