STOCKHOLM, Sweden, July 23 (UPI) -- The Chinese Ministry of Culture and Sport says it has chosen a piece by Swedish composer Robert Wells to be the official TV theme music for the Summer Olympics.

The Local said Wells's music was selected from submissions made by more than 100 international composers. The theme will be used to introduce TV broadcasts of the games in Beijing on stations worldwide.

"I have seen how they have mixed the music with the Olympic rings. It will be exciting and I am incredibly happy about this. It is the biggest thing that I have ever done," The Local quoted Wells as saying.

"My China Olympics adventure began eight years ago and since then I have been back 21 times," the composer told the Swedish newspaper Expressen, adding that his Olympics theme is a combination of his "Rhapsody in Rock" opus and traditional Chinese influences.
