NEW YORK, July 17 (UPI) -- A friend of Sarah Jessica Parker says the U.S. actress recently had a prominent mole taken off her chin.

Parker is best known for starring in the hit HBO TV series, "Sex and the City," as well as its successful big-screen follow-up.

"It's true. She did have it done," a friend of Parker's told Usmagazine.com. "There was no reason for it, it wasn't because she didn't like her mole, and it wasn't because of any medical reason, it was simply because she was in the mood to have it removed. That's all."

The Huffington Post noted that The New York Observer's Rex Reed mentioned Parker's mole in his review of the "Sex and the City" movie, Usmagazine.com said.

"There's nothing wrong with Sarah Jessica Parker, that couldn't be cured by wart-removal surgery. That growth on her face just gets bigger with every close-up, and in the full-length movie version of 'Sex and the City' it's so distracting you can't concentrate on anything else," Reed reportedly said. "It's not a beauty mark. I guess you can't tell a co-producer anything, but listen up, girl. At this point, you would make a wonderful Halloween witch."
