'Army Wives' enlisted for third season

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., July 12 (UPI) -- There will be a third season of the Lifetime channel series "Army Wives," the president of the U.S. cable TV network says.

Lifetime President Andrea Wong said during a TV Critics Association summer press tour Friday that since premiering last summer, the series about the wives and one husband of U.S soldiers has received record ratings, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The order for 18 new "Wives" episodes comes as the popular drama is airing its second season and Wong says the early renewal is a sign of confidence in the show's creators.

"Announcing this early renewal is a testament to the enormous faith and confidence we have in this show and its incredibly talented cast and production team," Wong said during the media event in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The Reporter said "Wives," which is based on author Tanya Biank's book "Under the Sabers: The Unwritten Code of Military Marriage," has received top ratings among ad-supported basic cable shows among women ages 18-49 and women 25-54.
