'Hancock' takes off at No. 1

LOS ANGELES, July 6 (UPI) -- The Will Smith action comedy "Hancock" blew into U.S. theaters this weekend, claiming the No. 1 spot for gross gate receipts, Box Office Mojo said Sunday.

Movie-goers bought an estimated $66 million in tickets to the Sony movie, which also stars Charlize Theron, in its first weekend. Since it hit U.S. theaters Tuesday evening, it banked $107,321,000.

Last week's top movie, "Wall-E," was No. 2 with $33.42 million, while "Wanted" slipped from second to No. 3 with $20.61 million in estimated revenues.

"Get Smart" was No. 4 at $11.13 million, followed by "Kung Fu Panda" at No. 5 with $7.5 million in estimated receipts in its fifth week in U.S. theaters.

The next two spots were held by "The Incredible Hulk" with $4.98 million in sales and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" at $3.94 million.

"Kit Kittredge: An American Girl," zoomed up from No. 23 to No. 8 in its third week, pulling in $3.6 million in gate receipts. The drama based on the American Girl doll line stars Abigail Breslin, Julia Ormond and Chris O'Donnell.

"Sex and the City" held on to ninth at $2.34 million and and "You Don't Mess with the Zohan" stayed No. 10 with $2 million.

Falling out of the top tier were "The Love Guru" and "The Happening."

Doukas: London fashion rules scare models

LONDON, July 6 (UPI) -- New health regulations for the upcoming London Fashion Week will likely make some models so "paranoid" they may not attend, agency head Sarah Doukas says.

The founder of the Storm modeling agency said while she was a member of the British Fashion Council's Model Health Inquiry, she is unhappy with the inquiry's decision to require good health certificates from those participating in the September event, The Sunday Telegraph reported.

"I think they (the certificates) are crazy -- not a good idea," Doukas said. "It will make some of the girls even more paranoid and freaked out about the weight thing, and they won't come to the U.K. market, they simply won't come to London Fashion Week."

Doukas said the pressure from the new health regulations, aimed at preventing models from becoming dangerously thin, comes as most models are already concerned with their weight.

"When the fashion weeks come around, it is a nightmare, and the girls put themselves under huge pressure," she told the Telegraph. "I hear the

'Bachelor' Firestone marries model

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., July 6 (UPI) -- Andrew Firestone, who searched for love on the TV series "The Bachelor," has married model Ivana Bozilovic in Los Olivos, Calif., the couple has confirmed.

The couple told US Magazine exclusively that they were "so happy" to be able to marry each other Saturday in front of their friends and family.

"We're so happy right now we can hardly stand it!" they said. "It is so special to be able to share this momentous day with our family and friends."

Firestone, 32, attempted to find a potential bride on the third season of the ABC reality series, but his relationship with the series winner, Jennifer Schefft, never made it down the aisle.

After the failed 2003 romance, Firestone met Bozilovic and proposed to the fashion model in 2007 before her 30th birthday party.

Firestone told US Magazine in June that Bozilovic had helped him improve himself.

"She makes me a better person," he said. "Never before have I been so gushy."

Tennant to retain 'Doctor Who' role

LONDON, July 6 (UPI) -- Actor David Tennant appears to be retaining the title role in "Doctor Who," the storyline of the British TV series' season finale portends.

While there had been speculation Tennant was preparing to leave the science fiction series, his character survived Saturday's finale and all indications were he would be returning next season, The Sunday Telegraph reported.

The British newspaper said in previous season finales, the actor playing Doctor Who typically exits the show after his character begins regenerating from an injury.

While Tennant's character had begun the regeneration process, he was able to divert the related energy and stave off losing his powers.

The original incarnation of the action series ran from 1963 to 1989 before being brought back in syndication in 2005 by the BBC.

The series follows the doctor as he travels through both time and space to battle various evil forces and routinely save the universe.
