Carrey wears McCarthy swimsuit at beach
MALIBU, Calif., July 5 (UPI) -- Comedian Jim Carrey wore a swimsuit belonging to his girlfriend, Playboy model Jenny McCarthy, on a beach walk in Malibu, Calif., other sunbathers said.
The "Ace Venture" actor, who has a reputation for wild antics on and off screen, wore McCarthy's halter-neck bikini during a stroll with the model, The Daily Telegraph reported Saturday.
The British newspaper said witnesses were shocked by Carrey's feminine attire as he strolled innocently along with McCarthy, who was wearing a more conservative ankle-length dress.
The 46-year-old actor, known for his roles in movies such as "The Mask" and "Dumb and Dumber," has been dating the former Playmate of the Month since December 2005.
'High School Musical' a hit in Britain
LONDON, July 5 (UPI) -- The U.S. touring stage production "High School Musical" has already reached nearly $40 million in ticket sales since arriving in Britain, a spokesman says.
An unidentified production spokesman said the British success of the production, which is based on a popular U.S. movie of the same name, is akin to the excitement that surrounded the rock group The Beatles, The Daily Telegraph reported Saturday.
"We always knew the show would be popular but the fan reaction has to be seen to be believed," he said. "It is like mini-Beatlemania."
The London performance of the musical has already begun preview showings and the spokesman said those young individuals lucky enough to get tickets are taking a little something extra home with them.
"At the end of the show, cannons fire sparkly confetti over the auditorium," he told the British newspaper. "We thought it would be a big nightly job to get it all cleared up, but within two minutes it has completely disappeared because children are stashing it away in their pockets as a souvenir."
Cruise and family enjoy holiday outing
DENVER, July 5 (UPI) -- Actor Tom Cruise was seen with his family at a Fourth of July celebration in Tellered, Colo.
The "Mission Impossible" star wore a cowboy hat as he enjoyed the holiday Friday with his wife, actress Katie Holmes, and their two children, the Daily Mail reported Saturday.
Cruise's son Connor, 13, is from his previous marriage to actress Nicole Kid man, and he has a 2-year-old daughter, Sui, with Holmes.
Sui was the star of the family's holiday outing based on Cruise's glowing comments about the child's outgoing personality, the Daily Mail reported.
"She likes to dance and sing, get her nails done with mom -- really beautiful," Cruise said of the newest addition to his family.
The actor also said little Sui has begun showing signs of being a star performer as well, likely thanks in part to her interest in the pop group, the Spice Girls, the British newspaper reported.
Game Group: Families turning to video games
LONDON, July 5 (UPI) -- British families increasingly are turning to video games for entertainment as the ongoing credit crisis restricts their finances, a game maker says.
The British video game company Game Group said it will earn $66 million in pre-tax profits during the first six months of this year as more families focus on such home-based entertainment, The Daily Telegraph reported Friday.
Analysts say the rising success of video fare such as "Mario Kart" and "Wii Fit" is due, in part, to the credit crisis that is forcing parents to rethink how to entertain their children on a limited budget.
"People thinks video games offer good value for money because they offer lots of hours of play," Screen Digest senior analyst Piers Harding-Rolls said. "The industry has also been helped by some big titles such as the 'Wii Fit,' which appeal to women and to people of all ages."
The British newspaper said while video game sales are climbing during the crisis, cinema attendance is plummeting. Separate figures indicate credit stresses may result in cinema sales reaching a record low for the last eight years, the newspaper said.
