OCALA, Fla., July 3 (UPI) -- A U.S. District Court judge in Florida has granted actor Wesley Snipes's request to leave the country to work on two movies.
The film star was sentenced in April to three years in prison for failing to file multiple income-tax returns, however, he has been allowed to remain free while his legal team appeals his case.
E! Online said Senior U.S. District Judge William Terrell Hodges ruled Wednesday that Snipes can go to London this month to finish work on the horror film "Gallowwalker," then head to Bangkok in September to shoot the action movie "Chasing the Dragon."
Although prosecutors objected to Snipes's request to spend at least two months "beginning a new project (in Thailand) half-way around the world with an open-ended return date," the judge allowed Snipes to go any way, E! Online said.
Snipes is best known for his roles in the "Blade" trilogy, "The Fan," "Demolition Man," "Jungle Fever" and "White Men Can't Jump."
SAG still reviewing contract offer
LOS ANGELES, July 3 (UPI) -- The Screen Actors Guild said it plans to continue reviewing over the next few days a new contract proposed by Hollywood's TV and film producers.
The SAG national negotiating committee met with Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers negotiators Wednesday to discuss a series of what it called "substantive questions" regarding the employers' proposed package.
"Guild negotiators and staff will further analyze and review the AMPTP's responses over the next several days in order to prepare a response to management's proposal," SAG said in a statement Wednesday. "The Screen Actors Guild national negotiating committee is working hard to achieve a fair deal for actors. The committee is mindful of its obligation to advance actors' interests and to safeguard the protections our contracts afford them. Guild negotiators are engaged in, and committed to, the negotiating process and are confident that an equal commitment from management will allow the parties to reach a fair agreement that serves the needs of Screen Actors Guild members, their employers and the industry."
The previous SAG-AMPTP contract expired Tuesday at 12:01 a.m. The AMPTP issued what it has described as its "final offer" Monday following weeks of negotiations between the two parties.
Report: A-Rod's wife in Paris with Kravitz
NEW YORK, July 3 (UPI) -- The wife of New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez has been spending time with rocker Lenny Kravitz in Paris, sources told the New York Post.
Meanwhile, rumors have been swirling that Rodriguez has been seen making late night visits to married Madonna's Manhattan apartment -- a claim the pop star's spokeswoman has denied.
The Post cited unnamed sources who said Rodriguez's wife, Cynthia, has been in Paris with Kravitz for the past several days, while Cynthia's two young daughters with A-Rod remained in Miami.
Insiders told the Post no divorce papers have been filed, however, they said both Alex and Cynthia now consider their marriage over.
Kravitz, who collaborated with Madonna on her 1990 single, "Justify My Love," denied speculation he had an affair with the U.S. pop star at the time, the Post said.
Kravitz also denied an affair with Cynthia Rodriguez, issuing a statement to Usmagazine.com that said: "There is absolutely no affair between Cynthia Rodriguez and myself. This is unequivocally 100 percent not true. Cynthia is a friend and is here with the godfather of her baby, who is also Alex's trainer, his wife and their baby girl. She came here to escape from everything happening in New York City. I opened my home to her as a friend and I find it extremely hurtful that I am now being referred to as an adulterer."
Spelling won't appear in '90210' pilot
LOS ANGELES, July 3 (UPI) -- Actress Tori Spelling said she won't be in the first episode of the new "Beverly Hills, 90210" spinoff, however, she will appear later in the series.
Spelling and actress Jennie Garth have signed on to reprise their roles from the original show in the upcoming spinoff. Their one-time co-star Shannen Doherty reportedly is also in talks to appear on the new series.
"I'm looking forward to returning to 90210 in a later episode," Spelling told People.com.
"But I just had my baby three weeks ago via C-section. So right now I have to focus on recuperating, and my first priority is my family."
Doherty reportedly was fired from the original show because she was difficult to get along with, which is causing speculation regarding how Spelling and Garth might feel about reuniting with her on the small screen.
"I don't think there's any love lost between Shannen and Jennie," an insider told E! Online.
"But they are both adults now and professionals, and I don't see it being an issue. Everyone has their take on what happened back in the day, and I think the feeling is that it's time to move on."
