Police said initial evidence in the apartment indicated Korshunova, who appeared on the covers of fashion publications such as French Elle and Russian Vogue, may have purposefully jumped from her apartment, the New York Post reported Sunday.
There were no signs of a struggle in the apartment and a protective netting around the site's balcony appeared to have been purposefully torn, police said.
The model, whose long locks earned her the moniker "The Russian Rapunzel," plummeted to her death Saturday afternoon and the news shocked those who knew her best, The Post reported.
"(The mom) didn't believe it was real," a close friend said.
"There were no signs," another unidentified friend told the newspaper.
"That's what's driving me crazy. I don't see one reason why she would do that."
