LOS ANGELES, June 25 (UPI) -- Hip-hop star Kanye West says he was late performing at the Bonnaroo music festival in Tennessee because the previous act played longer than expected.

West drew criticism because his June 15 set at the four-day-long festival started at 4:25 a.m., two hours later than scheduled.

People.com said West wrote on his blog that his performance was delayed because Pearl Jam played an hour longer than expected and then it took time for work crews to set the stage for West's act.

As time passed, some impatient fans left, while others tossed trash onto the stage and chanted obscenities at West, the entertainment news Web site said.

"Bonnaroo should have released a statement in my defense but since they haven't, let's break down the walls on this Truman Show and let you know what really occurred," West wrote on his blog. "I understand if people don't like me because I like me or if people think tight clothes look gay or people say I run my mouth to much, but this Bonnaroo thing is the worst insult I've ever had in my life. ... I'm sorry to everyone that I didn't have the ability to give the performance I wanted to. I'm sorry."
