NEW YORK, June 24 (UPI) -- The British rock group Coldplay is to appear and perform on the U.S. chat program "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," Comedy Central said Tuesday.

The performance will mark only the third time the mock news program has booked a musical act, the network noted.

The White Stripes performed Dec. 1, 2005, while Tom Waits performed Nov. 28, 2006.

Coldplay is to appear in the episode airing Wednesday and the band's set will be available online the following day at www.thedailyshow.com, Comedy Central said.

The group is promoting its latest album, "Viva La Vida."
