
LOS ANGELES, June 22 (UPI) -- The TV sitcom-based movie "Get Smart" opened at No. 1 in U.S. theaters this weekend, Box Office Mojo reported Sunday.
The Warner Brothers flick starring Steve Corell and Anne Hathaway, produced an estimated $39.16 million in gate receipts in its first weekend.
The animated "Kung Fu Panda" stayed at No. 2 with $21.7 million in estimated ticket sales, while comic book-inspired "The Incredible Hulk" slipped from the top spot to No. 3 with $21.56 million in sales.
Another new comedy, "The Love Guru," starring Mike Myers, started out at No. 4 with $14 million in sales. The movie has drawn criticism for making that have riled some Hindus.
"The Happening" held the No. 5 position with $10 million in sales.
Rounding out the Top 10 were "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," $8.41 million; "You Don't Mess with the Zolan," $7.2 million; "Sex and the City," $6.47 million; "Iron Man," $4 million; and "The Strangers," $1.95 million.
Pushed out of the top tier were "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" and "What Happens in Vegas."
