MONTPELIER, Vt., June 22 (UPI) -- Children's book illustrator Tasha Tudor, known best for her work on a 1944 "Mother Goose" edition, has died in Marlboro, Vt., at the age of 92.
The Los Angeles Times reported Friday that Tudor was known for creating dreamy artwork of barefoot children and calming New England settings.
She published her first book, "Pumpkin Moonshine," in 1938 and went on to have her noted artwork featured in nearly 80 literary works.
In an interview, Tudor once credited her success to her divorce from her husband, Thomas L. McCready.
"If I had married a man who could have supported me I would have ended up making paper dolls and gardening. But the wolf at the door is very good for people," said Tudor, who died last Wednesday of complications related to old age.
The Times said she is survived by her four children, Bethany Wheelock, Seth, Thomas and Efner Strong Tudor Holmes; along with an unspecified number of grandchildren.
