DETROIT, June 21 (UPI) -- Stevie Wonder is set honor his Detroit roots with an upcoming concert in the Motor City that has served to inspire him throughout his career, the singer says.
The Grammy Award-winning recording artist said since he first found musical success more than 40 years ago, Detroit and its many musical icons have remained in his thoughts, The Detroit Free Press said Saturday.
"You're talking about blessings that happened -- things that didn't have to happen," the 58-year-old Wonder said. "It's always good to talk about good things that happened. All those things bring back a memory, but they also inspire the urge for doing something very exciting now and in the future."
The "Superstition" star said he is also looking forward to his concert next Tuesday at DTE Energy Music Theatre, where he hopes he can sow the seeds of city unity.
"You know, I think at one time Detroit was one of the most united cities, in time and space," he told the Free Press. "So I always look forward to just bringing people together -- people of various cultures and ethnicities -- so we can become greater than we ever have been before."
