Arts Alliance Media Chief Executive Officer Howard Kiedaisch said the European cinema market has fallen drastically behind its U.S. counterpart in relation to digital cinema wares, The Hollywood Reporter said Friday.
"The reality is that only as of February of this year are we where the U.S. was in December of 2005," Kiedaisch said. "It should go faster now, because the U.S. rollout shows people digital cinema helps business once you have digital screens up and running."
To help spread digital cinema across Europe, a number of related presentations have been scheduled for the 2008 trade exhibition, which begins Monday in Amsterdam.
The Reporter said only 1,300 European screens are equipped for digital films, compared with the nearly 5,000 cinema screens in the United States.
