Kasdan hired to write 'Robotech' script

LOS ANGELES, June 17 (UPI) -- Hollywood author Lawrence Kasdan reportedly is writing a big-screen adaptation of the 1980s anime classic "Robotech."

Kasdan has written the scripts for "The Big Chill," "Return of the Jedi," "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark."

The Hollywood Reporter said Akiva Goldsman, Chuck Roven,Tobey Maguire and Drew Crevello are producing the science-fiction epic about how Earth scientists develop giant robots based on technology found on an alien spacecraft that crashed on a South Pacific isle. The Earthlings use the technology to battle alien invaders, the entertainment industry trade paper said.
