LOS ANGELES, June 15 (UPI) -- TV producer John Wells will try to build off the success of the U.S. medical TV drama "ER" with a new NBC dramatic series, an industry report says.

The Hollywood Reporter said Friday as "ER" is entering its 15th and final season, Wells is preparing to create a pilot for the TV network based on the lives of Los Angeles police officers.

The pilot for "LAPD," a John Wells Prods. and Warner Bros. TV production, will be directed by "ER" director Christopher Chulack.

Writer Ann Biderman, who won an Emmy Award for her work on the crime drama "NYPD Blue," has been hired to write the script for the dramatic pilot, the Reporter said.
