Jury selection begins in R. Kelly child pornography trial

CHICAGO, June 11 (UPI) -- Testimony in singer R. Kelly's child pornography trial in Chicago has ended and closing arguments have been scheduled for later this week.

The Chicago Tribune said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Shauna Boliker told the judge overseeing the case Tuesday that she misinformed the jury that a DVD used during testimony was an exact copy of the sex tape that is the focus of the case when, in fact, significant detail was lost when the images were transferred from video to disc.

The Tribune said it is not clear how the matter, which was discussed out of the jury's presence, will be addressed.

The jury has been instructed to return Thursday for closing arguments.

Kelly is charged with videotaping himself allegedly having sex with an underage girl some time between 1998 and 2000. Kelly's attorneys maintain the female on the tape isn't who prosecutors say she is and the man having sex with her isn't Kelly.

If convicted, the recording artist faces up to 15 years in prison.
