'Musketeers' remake in the works

LOS ANGELES, June 11 (UPI) -- Los Angeles-based Millennium Films said it is planning a movie based on Alexandre Dumas' classic adventure set in the 17th century, "The Three Musketeers."

Variety.com said the latest big-screen adaptation of the novel, which is in the public domain, would trace how musketeers Athos, Porthos and Aramis first teamed up.

D'Artagnan, the last swordsman to join the band, may be introduced late in the first movie or in a sequel, the entertainment industry trade paper said.

Millennium is also working on new movies featuring iconic characters like Conan the Barbarian, Red Sonja, Hercules and Buck Rogers.

"There aren't many branded properties like this out there, and it is a seller's market for the high-profile ones," Millennium's Joe Gatta told Variety.com. "You can either build one from scratch or find the ones that are available and of interest to audiences, which we did with Conan and Buck Rogers."
