2M 'Rambo' DVD units sold its 1st week out

SANTA MONICA, Calif., June 9 (UPI) -- Sylvester Stallone's latest action flick, "Rambo," sold 2 million DVD units in the United States and Canada its first week in release, Lionsgate said Monday.

"Rambo" debuted at No. 1 on the home video rental charts and was No. 2 on the sales charts among this week's DVD releases, the movie and television entertainment studio said.

The movie's Blu-ray release debuted at No. 1 and marked one of the best Blu-ray debuts to date. It also came out of its first weekend in release as the No. 1 movie download on the iTunes Store, Lionsgate said.

"John Rambo is as explosive on home entertainment as he is in the Burmese jungle. The 'Rambo' franchise continues to be strong during the digital age because it appeals to a very fervent fan base that receives its entertainment in many different formats from packaged media to all other digital options," Ron Schwartz, Lionsgate general manager and executive vice president, said in a statement. "The 'Rambo' series has been a jewel of the Lionsgate library and this new installment to the franchise is an action-packed movie that has obviously thrilled old and new 'Rambo' fans alike."
