LOS ANGELES, June 8 (UPI) -- Conservative radio host Dr. Laura Schlessinger was loathe to surrender a second-place finish in a California Yacht Club sailing contest, sources say.

The unidentified sources said "The Dr. Laura Program" host earned a second-place finish in last weekend's event despite accidentally sailing the wrong course, but became irate when asked to withdraw by her competitors, TMZ.com reported Saturday.

The sources said the nationally syndicated show host was concerned if she withdrew, her chances of winning the club's overall regatta series would be diminished

While the radio star was never formally asked to withdraw from the club race, she eventually gave in to her competitors' requests.

A representative for Schlessinger told TMZ.com she had been confused by a changed weather marker.
