Disney's Gomez dedicated to abstinence

BURBANK, Calif., June 8 (UPI) -- U.S. actress-singer Selena Gomez, a rising teen star on the Disney Channel, says she is dedicated to not having sex until she is married.

The 15-year-old, who appears on the Disney series "Wizards of Waverly Place," said she plans on abstaining from sex despite the lures present in the entertainment industry, "Extra" reported Friday.

"I said, 'Dad, I want a promise ring.' He went to the church and got it blessed. He actually used me as an example for other kids. I'm going to keep my promise to myself, to my family and to God," Gomez told the TV news show.

In addition to her popular role on the original Disney Channel series, Gomez has found some success as a singer through Walt Disney Records.
