The music publication reported Friday that "Over," the first single from Simpson's new country album, reached the No. 41 spot on its Hot Country Songs chart this week.
The "A Public Affair" singer was the target of skepticism when news first broke that she was creating her first country music album.
But Columbia Nashville Promotions Vice President Jimmy Rector says the success of "Over" shows Simpson's newest work is changing the minds of country music fans.
"More than anything, people are pleasantly surprised," he said. "A lot of people didn't want to like it, but when they heard it, regardless of pre-conceived notions, they realized this is a really good record."
Meanwhile, Simpson told Billboard that being able to make the transition to country music has allowed her to rejuvenate her career.
"I feel like a brand-new artist," she said. "It's a great feeling."
