Lauper wants 'music with energy again'

BOSTON, June 6 (UPI) -- American pop singer Cyndi Lauper says she just wanted to have fun -- and dance -- on her new album.

Lauper says "Bring Ya to the Brink" was a reaction to her last two albums, the torchy "At Last" and "The Body Acoustic," both of which she considered "side projects" from her regular sound.

"I wanted to go back to making music with energy again," explains Lauper, who won the 1984 Grammy Award for Best New Artist and has had hits such as "Girls Just Want To Have Fun," "Time After Time," "She Bop" and "True Colors"

"I wanted to do stuff with energy and rhythm, so I reached out to the dance community and find good people to work with."

Among Lauper's collaborators on the album are noted dance music producers such as Basement Jaxx, The Scumfrog, Richard Morel and Digital Dog.

Lauper is headlining the True Colors Tour with the B-52's, Tegan and Sara, Rosie O'Donnell and others.
