Hughley to serve as host of BET Awards

NEW YORK, June 3 (UPI) -- U.S. actor and comedian D.L. Hughley is to preside over the upcoming BET Awards show, BET announced Tuesday.

The prize presentation is to take place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles June 24.

Alicia Keys, Usher, Kanye West, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne and Nelly are scheduled to perform live during the show.

R&B icon Al Green is to receive BET's Lifetime Achievement Award during the star-studded event while producer/arranger/composer Quincy Jones will be honored with BET's Humanitarian Award for his outreach to young African- Americans through the Listen Up Foundation, a charity that connects youth with music, technology and culture.

A member of The Original Kings of Comedy, Hughley also starred in his own sitcom, "The Hughleys," and was part of the ensemble of the series "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip."

He was most recently seen starring in a one-hour comedy special for HBO "Unapologetic" and as host of "Def Comedy Jam."
