Veteran CBC newsman dies

NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ontario, June 1 (UPI) -- Bob MacGregor, who spent 52 years as a news reporter, writer and producer for the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., has died of cancer the network said. He was 74.

MacGregor died Saturday in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, the public broadcaster said.

MacGregor, who started at CBC in 1956, covered many major stories during his career, including the 1973 Quebec election in which pro-federalist Robert Bourassa upset separatist Rene Levesque, and the 1967 Montreal Exposition.

For the past decade he was an overnight hourly news announcer.
