London's 'Gone with the Wind' a goner

LONDON, June 1 (UPI) -- A London stage production of "Gone with the Wind" will soon close after receiving lukewarm reviews and poor ticket sales, producers say.

Producers said due to less than flattering reviews in British newspapers and struggling ticket sales, the "Wind" show will officially end June 14, The Sunday Times of London reported.

Producers even attempted to trim down the length of the production, which cost investors nearly $10 million, from four hours in an attempt to increase business. Yet ticket sales continued to remain stolid and the decision was made to end the New London Theatre show.

The Times said the production, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Margaret Mitchell and subsequent Oscar-winning 1939 film, was written and scored by relative newcomer, U.S. writer Margaret Martin.
