LOS ANGELES, June 1 (UPI) -- Actress-singer Lindsay Lohan was hospitalized in Los Angeles with an asthma attack, her mother Dina said.

Lohan said her 21-year-old daughter was having difficulty breathing Thursday and taken to an area emergency room for treatment, People magazine reported.

"She was losing oxygen. She couldn't breathe," Lohan said.

A representative of the actress had claimed Lohan was simply visiting a friend at the facility, People said.

Lohan also had some choice comments regarding the paparazzi that constantly hound her daughter.

"She was afraid to go the hospital because (the paparazzi) were gonna write about it. She was sick," she told People. "If you were sick, and your mother couldn't even take you to a hospital because paparazzi will fabricate some story, you know, it's sad. It's really sad."
