SAG contract talks put on hold

HOLLYWOOD, May 31 (UPI) -- Negotiations for a new contract for Screen Actors Guild members will not take place during the weekend, the head of the Hollywood group said Friday.

SAG President Alan Rosenberg said talks between the actors union and Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers have been put on hold for three days and will resume next Tuesday, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Rosenberg said in a statement to SAG members that the break, which came after three days of unsuccessful negotiations, was due to an AMPTP fundraiser next Monday.

The break also came in the wake of an agreement between top studios and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists on a new prime-time TV deal, the entertainment industry paper said.

Rosenberg assured his fellow SAG members that the new TV agreement would be analyzed to determine if it will impact the union's ongoing contract talks.

"We are in the process of analyzing the AFTRA/AMPTP agreement and how it impacts our negotiations," he said in his statement. "We will continue to seek further clarifications regarding the agreement from both AFTRA and the AMPTP."
