NEW YORK, May 29 (UPI) -- Sony Pictures Classics said it plans to release "Baghead" in Austin, Texas, in a move to utilize the city's emerging status in the independent film community.

The Austin launch departs from the traditional release strategy of first opening a small film in New York and Los Angeles.

"Baghead" is to open June 13 in Austin, a day after the Austin Film Society has an outdoor premiere screening. The Austin debut is to be followed by a national roll-out throughout the summer, emphasizing key regional markets.

"This release campaign fits the unique style of the films of the Duplass Brothers and is an exciting new strategy we are eager to implement," Tom Bernard, co-president of Sony Pictures Classics, said in a statement.

The Duplass Brothers' "Baghead" is about a group of actors intent on writing a script that will propel them to stardom.

They drive to a cabin in the woods where their drinking and collaborating is interrupted by a disturbing apparition with a bag over its head -- a figure that both inspires and terrifies them.

The Duplass Brothers previously worked together on the big-screen comedy "The Puffy Chair."
