JUPITER ISLAND, Fla., May 25 (UPI) -- Singer Celine Dion is the biggest water utility user along Florida's Treasure Coast, consuming 6.5 million gallons in a year, a newspaper reported Sunday.
The Palm Beach (Fla.) Post reported its investigation of water usage records for Martin County, Fla., utility users found many of the biggest consumers were on wealthy Jupiter Island, where Dion's company, Renlec Management, owns 5.7 acres. Her estate reportedly went through enough water in a one-year period to fill a 50-gallon bathtub every four minutes.
The average area resident consumes 10,000 gallons per month. However, some residents went through as much as 1.6 million gallons in a single month, the Post found.
It reported that Dion's company did not return calls for comment about the property, where an old home had been razed and was being replaced by a 9,800-square-foot mansion.
The newspaper also found that golfer Tiger Woods' 12-acre Jupiter Island estate used close to 3.7 million gallons of water over the same 12-month period, working out to an average of about 310,700 gallons per month. An associate of Woods told the Post much of the water was used to irrigate newly transplanted large native trees.
