Pearlman sentenced to 25 years in prison

ORLANDO, Fla., May 21 (UPI) -- Former music mogul Lou Pearlman has been sentenced in a Florida court to 25 years in prison for money laundering and conspiracy, TMZ.com said Wednesday.

Pearlman, who helped create the boy bands Backstreet Boys and 'NSYNC, pleaded guilty in March to fleecing investors and banks out of millions of dollars over a period of 25 years.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy, one count of money laundering and one count of making a false claim in a bankruptcy.

TMZ.com said the judge who sentenced him gave him the maximum sentence.

Yamaguchi wins 'Dancing with the Stars'

LOS ANGELES, May 21 (UPI) -- Kristi Yamaguchi and her professional dance partner Mark Ballas were declared the winners of the U.S. dance competition "Dancing with the Stars" Tuesday night.

Yamaguchi and Ballas beat out their fellow finalists Jason Taylor and Edyta Sliwinska for the honor in the show's Season 6 finale.

Yamaguchi, an Olympic gold medal-winning figure skater, is the first female celebrity to win the coveted mirror ball since Kelly Monaco did so in Season 1.

"This is just the icing on the cake," Yamaguchi said upon learning her fate. "I honestly from the bottom of my heart thank all of the fans out there and everyone involved with 'Dancing with the Stars' from the crew, hair and makeup. ... Everyone who has made this a dream experience."

Singer Janet Jackson set to tour

LOS ANGELES, May 21 (UPI) -- U.S. recording artist Janet Jackson is planning her first North American concert tour in more than seven years, Live Nation (NYSE:LYV) confirmed Wednesday.

The singer, who has sold more than 100 million albums, announced plans for her Rock Witchu tour on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Monday.

Live Nation, which is producing the tour, said the concert series is to kick off in Vancouver, B.C., on Sept. 10. It will include dates in Washington, D.C., New Jersey, Montreal and Toronto and hit major markets as it travels across the United States. More dates are to be announced shortly, Live Nation said.

Tickets go on sale for the first shows June 7. They can be purchased at www.livenation.com.

Bowie not working on 'Earth' dance show

LONDON, May 21 (UPI) -- David Bowie's record label says a Danish choreographer has not been granted permission to use some of Bowie's songs in a new dance show.

The Sun newspaper in London had reported Bowie was working with Peter Schaufuss on a stage version of Bowie's film "The Man Who Fell to Earth, but RZO Music told the BBC "absolutely no material" had been licensed for this purpose.

Bowie last week dismissed reports he had approved a musical based on the 1976 sci-fi film as "absolute toss."

"I have no idea who Peter Schaufuss is either," the British rock icon said in a posting on his Web site.

However, Schaufuss told the BBC, "We have done everything by the book."

The choreographer -- who staged "Satisfaction," a dance piece based on the music of the Rolling Stones, in London's West End last year -- said the Bowie show is slated to premiere in Denmark in September. There are no plans to take the show out of the country, he said.

The show will feature some of Bowie's biggest hits like "Let's Dance," "Space Oddity," "Life on Mars" and "Starman," Schaufuss said.
