LOS ANGELES, May 20 (UPI) -- Hollywood actor Jake Gyllenhaal reportedly has signed on to star in the big-screen adaptation of the "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" video game.

Mike Newell is directing the action fantasy adventure, which is set in 6th century Persia and will co-star British actress Gemma Arterton, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Jerry Bruckheimer is producing the movie, which is to start shooting in July, the trade newspaper said.

Newcomer Arterton will soon be seen in the new James Bond movie "Quantum of Solace."

Gyllenhaal is best known for his roles in "Donnie Darko," "The Good Girl," "Jarhead," "Brokeback Mountain" and "Zodiac."
