NEW YORK, May 18 (UPI) -- A carpenter is suing Gisele Bundchen for injuries he claims he suffered during a fall at the Brazilian supermodel's New York apartment, his lawyer says.

Lawyer Keith Ahlers says his client, Martin Marrero, suffered a fractured shoulder, broken ribs and herniated spinal discs after he fell off a staircase in Bundchen's apartment, the New York Post reported Sunday.

Ahlers alleged that the injuries occurred on a staircase in the apartment that did not have a handrail.

The accident occurred as Marrero was renovating Bundchen's apartment.

Since the September 2006 accident, Marrero has been unable to work due to those injuries, Ahlers alleged in the Bronx Supreme Court lawsuit.

The Post said the lawsuit, which is seeking unspecified damages, names the 27-year-old model's company, Casa Vida, as a co-defendant.
