LOS ANGELES, May 14 (UPI) -- Hollywood filmmaker Gore Verbinski reportedly is set to direct and produce a big-screen version of the video game "Bioshock."

Verbinski has previously directed the "Pirates of the Caribbean" blockbusters.

Variety.com said Universal Pictures has signed a deal with him to adapt the popular "Bioshock" game into a movie.

"I think the whole utopia-gone-wrong story that's cleverly unveiled to players is just brimming with cinematic potential," Verbinski told Variety.com. "Of all the games I've played, this is one that I felt has a really strong narrative."

"Aviator" author John Logan is in negotiations to write the script, the trade newspaper said.
